This is a campsite for nature lovers. Bring your bush trailers, caravans, vehicles and tents for an unforgettable weekend or longer.

Why camp in our Eco camp?

  • This is the ideal place to sort out your camping gadgets before venturing into Africa.

  • These activities must be booked and paid for in advance to ensure availability of instructors. Minimum numbers may apply.

  • We can provide exclusivity for groups of 15 or more adults.  

What does it entail?

You arrive at Shelter Rock Bush Camp where you park your vehicle and set up your camp.

  • You select your campsite on a first come basis
  • For hot water you make a fire in the "donkey"  (boiler) with the wood provided.

  • You can relax in the quietness of nature, watch the sunset over the Magaliesberg and the sunrise the next morning.

  • During the night you may hear the sounds of the jackal and various small animals.

  • In the morning you can report to Base Camp where you get instructions and a pocket guide for the hike to the top of the Magaliesberg.

  • On your return you may take a dip in our splash pool at Base Camp.

  • There is no electricity in our bush camp. You may recharge cellphones, flashlights etc at Base Camp. Please make arrangements with Corry. 
  • For hiking please wear loose fitting clothing and closed shoes (tennis shoes, light hiking boots etc.; no sandals). Use lots of sunblock. 
  • Bear in mind that it becomes exceptionally hot on the Magaliesberg.
  • The hike is not suitable for strollers. If you wish to take todlers with you try to get a suitable carry ruck sac.
  • Take along at least 1.5 liters of water per person on the hike.
  • Bring warm clothing for the evening .
  • Bring charcoal.

What is included?


  • Unisex ablution facilities with 3 hot and cold showers, 2 flush toilets, hand washbasin and a basin for cleaning pots, pans and crockery and cutlery. 
  • Firewood for heating water in the donkey. (Boiler)        
  • Braai facilities are available. Just bring your own food, utensils and charcoal.
  • Access to our hiking trail to the top of the Magaliesberg.

Terms and conditions

Our rates are as follow:

  • 2 Night rate adults   R200pp.  
  • Additional night - R80 pp (per night).
  • All children under 16 - R100
  • Additional night - R40
  • All rates includes complimentary access to our hiking trail to the top of the Magaliesberg.
  • Day visitor rate R80pp  for adults and R40 for children 6-16 years of age. Day visitor departure time is strictly before 17h00.
  • The Eco Camp must be booked and paid for in advance. (Please note: for safety gates close at 17h00 and reopen at 7h00 the next morning).
  • Arival times between 16h00 and 18h00 if later must be arranged at the time of booking. Departure time before 16h00.
  • Bookings for a specific date are allocated in the sequence of a 50% non refundable deposit received in our bank account. The balance is payable in full 7 days before arrival.

Camp Rules

These rules are there to ensure an enjoyable stay for all campers.

  • All camping equipment, including tents must be provided by the campers.
  • This is a strictly no noise ECO campsite. No: TV, music, drums, or quad bikes.
  • No bicycles are allowed as the terrain does not lend itself to cycling.
  • Only silent generators which cannot be heard by other campers are allowed.
  • Complete silence in the camp after 21h00
  • Open fires are not allowed outside the boma at all times.
  • No feeding of animals. If you feed them they become dependent on humans and aggressive and may have to be eliminated.
  • Bring everything you need.
  • Place all your rubbish in the bins provided.
  • Small babies are only allowed if you are part of a group that have exclusive use of the campsite.
  • No dogs allowed in the campsite.
