Knobkierie
Golf
Our
9 hole par 36 knobkierie golf course is, we believe, the first
in South
Africa. It offers the opportunity for both golfing and non
golfing friends to meet and have fun together as
everyone has to learn new
skills. The terrain allowed for
a challenging golf course design.
A
knobkierie is a traditional walking stick turned upside down. The knobkieries are cut from
indigenous trees and no two are alike. It is played with a Slazball which is heavier than a
tennis ball, red in color and has little bounce. The greens are like
fairways, the
fairways are like rough and the rough is seriously deep rough.
The fun
start at The Base Camp where a practice green awaits you. You have to master your knobkierie, the ball and the
course whose characteristics changes with the seasons and the weather. After mastering your gear you
walk to the start of the course.
The nature of the course allows for some unique and fun rules:
- This is the
only golf course where you can play in your jeans and tekkies.
- You
can place the ball every shot you play without taking a penalty.
- No shot is
ever out of bounds.
- With a 36
handicap you are deemed a pro.
- No need to
worry about hazards as the course is the hazard itself.
- The benches
provided along the course are rock hard.
- No need to
repair divots or pitch marks.
- Sharing of
clubs is encouraged.
- Speed of
play is determined by the time it takes to find your ball in the
seriously deep rough.
The
course ends with a final hole half way down the side of
a kloof. Walk up the other side of the kloof to the 19th hole and watch
your colleagues battle.
Fee includes club and ball hire. Refundable ball deposit of R30 is required.
