A Via Ferrata (Iron Way) is a stairway anchored on the side of a mountain. It was designed to move troops speedily over the Alps during the world wars. There are presently more than 300 Via Ferratas in the world and is the fastest growing outdoor sport in Europe. The Via Ferrata on Shelter Rock is the only one in Africa.
A unique feature of our Stairway is that you have a choice to return to Base Camp via a leisurely scenic walk on our Mountain Trail or a Double Pitch Abseil down the Magaliesberg cliff face.
